New York road test
New York uses a dedicated Road Test Scheduling System. Before you schedule and before you arrive, make sure your learner permit, required pre-licensing or driver-education completion and test vehicle are ready.

What you need to schedule
NY DMV's road-test instructions use the permit or license ID and the applicable pre-licensing or driver-education completion information to schedule the exam. Online pre-licensing completion may be reported electronically by the provider.
Junior permit holders have an additional supervised-driving certification requirement for test day.
What to bring to the road test
- Your valid New York photo learner permit or the photo document required with a temporary permit.
- The required pre-licensing or driver-education completion proof, unless the DMV already has the eligible online completion on file.
- For a junior learner permit, the completed supervised-driving certification required by NY DMV.
- A properly registered, inspected, insured and working test vehicle.
- An appropriately licensed accompanying driver when the permit rules require one.
Results are posted after the test
NY DMV gives the applicant instructions for checking the result online. The current RT-3 instructions say to wait until after 6 p.m. on the day of the road test before checking.
