Which New York manual chapters matter for the permit test?

NY DMV says Chapters 4 through 11 contain material you must know for the Class D, DJ or E learner-permit written test. Those chapters cover traffic control, intersections and turns, passing, parking, defensive driving, alcohol and drugs, special driving conditions and sharing the road.

Part 1 is still useful licensing context, but the DMV notes that its information is not covered on the permit written test. That lets you prioritize your study time without ignoring the application rules you still need to follow.
