Wisconsin teen instruction-permit rules
Wisconsin's teen path starts with certified driver education and the Class D instruction permit. The permit is available from age 15, but the probationary-license road test has additional age, time and practice requirements.

Get the permit while enrolled in driver education
Under-18 applicants must be enrolled in certified driver education and have the required sponsor and school-status certifications.
Complete 50 hours of supervised practice
At least 10 of the 50 hours must be during darkness. Use a driving log to track progress.
Meet all road-test eligibility rules
Before the probationary-license road test, the teen must be at least 16, hold the permit at least six months without violations and have driver-education completion on file.
