Get the learner permit first if you need practice
The North Carolina Driver Handbook says an adult learner permit authorizes supervised driving in the specified vehicle class. The supervising licensed driver must sit beside the permit holder.
Complete the permit tests
Required testing includes vision, traffic signs and knowledge of motor-vehicle laws.
Prepare for the on-road test
The driving test is not required to obtain the learner permit, but it is part of the original driver-license process. Check the current office and appointment information before scheduling.
