North Carolina road test
The North Carolina driving test is an on-road demonstration of driving ability. It is not required for a learner permit, but it is required in the original-license process when NCDMV rules call for it.

Pass the earlier tests first
The Driver Handbook says the on-road test follows the other required testing for an original license. Teen drivers must also satisfy the current Level 2 eligibility rules before their road test.
Bring an eligible vehicle and required records
For a teen Level 2 road test at an NCDMV office, use the current Level 2 checklist for the vehicle, registration, insurance and parent/guardian requirements.
Check the location and time
Use the official office locator to confirm that the location offers the service. NCDMV states that road tests are not available after 4 p.m.
