North Carolina test format
North Carolina learner permit test format
For an original learner permit, NCDMV describes three separate checks: vision, traffic signs and knowledge of motor-vehicle laws and safe-driving practices.
- Visionscreening required
- Traffic signsseparate test
- Knowledgelaws + safe driving
Knowledge test
The regular Driver Handbook says the knowledge test covers traffic laws and safe-driving practices. NCDMV's current public pages do not publish a fixed regular-test question count, so Road to Permit does not claim one.
Traffic-sign test
Applicants are expected to identify signs by color and shape and explain what each means.
Vision screening
Vision is checked for an original permit or license. Corrective-lens restrictions may be added when required.
