Georgia driver's manual
Georgia Driver's Manual for the permit test
The Georgia Department of Driver Services publishes the Driver's Manual as the official study source for noncommercial permit and license testing. The knowledge exam separates Road Signs from Road Rules, and both sections must be passed.
- 2 partsRoad Signs + Road Rules
- 20 eachquestions per section
- 15 eachcorrect answers required
Use the current DDS manual as the source of truth
The Georgia Driver's Manual covers licensing, signs and signals, traffic laws, safe driving, sharing the road and the testing process. DDS also publishes the manual section-by-section online.
Use the live DDS manual rather than an old third-party PDF when a rule, fee or procedure matters.
What to study first
- Road-sign shapes, colors, symbols, signals and pavement markings.
- Right-of-way, intersections, turns, lane use and passing.
- Speed, following distance, stopping and defensive driving.
- Alcohol and drug laws, distracted driving and safety equipment.
- Georgia-specific teen licensing and Class CP/Class D restrictions.
Prepare for two separate knowledge-test sections
Georgia tests Road Signs and Road Rules separately. Each section contains 20 questions and requires at least 15 correct answers. Study the sign section independently because DDS states that the Road Signs test is given in English only.
