Florida's teen learner-license route

Section 322.1615 of the 2026 Florida Statutes sets the learner-license minimum age at 15 and requires the written learner exam, vision and hearing screening and an approved driver-education course. Applicants must also meet the state's identity and licensing requirements.

If you are under 18 and not exempt from the parental-consent rule, a parent or legal guardian must complete the required consent for the application.

Driving with the learner license

A learner driver must be supervised by a properly licensed driver age 21 or older seated beside the learner. During the first three months, driving is limited to daylight; after that period, the learner may drive until 10 p.m.

Those limits apply to practice driving, not just the road-test day. Build supervised experience across normal traffic, nighttime conditions when permitted and the maneuvers you will need for the Class E driving test.

Moving from the learner stage to Class E

For drivers under 18, Florida's graduated-licensing route generally requires holding the learner license for at least 12 months and certification of at least 50 hours of supervised driving, including nighttime practice, before moving to the full Class E stage, subject to the state's other eligibility rules.
