Utah teen learner-permit rules
Utah combines driver education, permit holding time and supervised practice for young first-time drivers.
- 6 monthspermit hold at 16–17
- 40 hourspractice driving
- 10 hoursafter sunset
Driver education is required at 15–18
Utah accepts approved high-school, private/commercial and approved online home-study programs, with route-specific instructional hours.
Ages 16–17 use a six-month permit period
Before licensing, drivers in this age range must satisfy the permit-holding rule in addition to education and practice.
Log 40 practice hours
Ten of the required practice hours must occur after sunset.
