Montana teen learner permit and GDL rules
Montana's three-step GDL begins with the NCLP and gradually expands driving privileges.

- 6 mo + 1 dayminimum NCLP hold
- 50 / 10supervised hours / night
Approved driver education can start at 14½
A student in a state-approved traffic-education program may receive a learning permit from the instructor.
Complete 50 supervised hours
To advance, the teen logs 50 hours including 10 at night and holds the NCLP at least six months plus one day.
First-Year Restricted License has nighttime limits
Unsupervised teen driving is generally restricted from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., with listed exceptions.
