Kentucky learner-permit requirements
Kentucky requires first-time drivers to begin with a permit and complete written and vision testing through Kentucky State Police.

Schedule the tests with Kentucky State Police and complete the Regional Office credential steps.
Teen GDL adds practice and time
Before the intermediate license, a teen must be at least 16, hold the permit at least 180 days and complete 60 supervised hours including 10 at night.
Adults still start with a permit
For first-time drivers age 21+, Kentucky requires the permit to be held for at least 30 days before the road skills test.
