Pennsylvania permit and road-test appointments
A standard learner's-permit knowledge test is taken at a PennDOT Driver License Center after you complete the application steps. A non-commercial road test requires an appointment and can be scheduled online or through PennDOT's call center.

For the regular knowledge test, find a Driver License Center
PennDOT's learner-permit instructions direct applicants to a Driver License Center with their completed forms, original documents and fee when they are ready for the knowledge test. Use the official location finder to confirm the center offers the service you need and check its hours.
Road tests must be scheduled
PennDOT requires an appointment for the non-commercial road test. You can schedule online or call the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Call Center. Same-day road-test appointments cannot be scheduled.
Special testing arrangements may need advance contact
PennDOT offers voice testing on request and publishes procedures for accessibility and interpreter support. If you need a special arrangement, review PennDOT's current instructions before your visit.
