Nebraska teen permit and POP path

Nebraska has more than one teen permit route: the standard LPD, a special School Permit for eligible students and the Provisional Operator's Permit.

Standard LPD starts at 15

The learner drives only with a licensed driver age 21+ beside them.

Nebraska has a special School Permit

Eligible students who live outside a city of 5,000+ or attend school outside one may qualify from age 14 years and 2 months after the required prior permit period and training/practice.

POP expands unsupervised driving at 16

Before POP, the teen generally holds an eligible permit for at least six months and completes approved driver education or 50 certified hours, including 10 at night.
