Mississippi learner permit for teens

Mississippi uses age-based timing for the transition from the Regular Learner's Permit to a Class R license.

  • 15permit minimum age
  • 12 monthshold for many 15–16-year-olds
  • 17+no 12-month hold

Ages 15–16 generally hold the permit 12 months

Maintain the required school-attendance form

The state requires a current form for most 15–17-year-old applicants.

Applicants 17+ do not have the 12-month hold

The state says they may obtain the permit and driver license on the same day if all requirements are satisfied.
