Idaho learner-permit requirements
Idaho can license drivers from age 15, but the process depends strongly on age. Applicants under 17 must complete approved driver training and the GDL supervised-instruction period.

Under 17: GDL and driver training are mandatory
The handbook requires an approved driver-training program plus a minimum six-month violation-free supervised instruction period.
Age 17+: Class D instruction permit route
A Class D instruction permit allows supervised practice for applicants age 17 or older after passing the knowledge test.
