Colorado teen permit
Colorado teen instruction permit rules
Colorado's minor-driver path requires time and supervised practice before the first driver license. The exact education route varies by age, so the current DMV minor-driver instructions control.
- 12 monthsfirst permit before license
- 50 hourssupervised driving
- 10 hoursnight driving within total
Hold the permit and build experience
A driver under 18 must hold the first instruction permit for at least 12 months and be at least 16 before the first license.
Complete the supervised driving log
Colorado requires at least 50 supervised hours for a minor, including 10 at night. Keep the official log current rather than reconstructing it at the end.
Education requirements depend on age
Colorado has age-based driver education and behind-the-wheel requirements. Check the current DMV table before choosing a course or scheduling the license step.
