Colorado adult first driver
Colorado first driver license for adults
An adult first-time driver still starts with the driving knowledge test and an instruction permit. Colorado's adult permit page allows the drive skills test after the permit is issued, without the minor 12-month holding period.

- Permitbefore legal practice
- Third partydrive skills test
Start with knowledge and the permit
Study the Driver Handbook, pass the knowledge test and complete the permit transaction with the required documents.
Practice legally if you need it
Use the instruction permit under Colorado's supervision rules until you are ready for the drive skills test. Adults do not use the teen 12-month permit-hold rule.
Take the skills test with an approved provider
Colorado state driver-license offices do not conduct driving skills tests. Use an approved third-party testing school, then complete the licensing transaction.
