South Carolina teen beginner's-permit rules

South Carolina's teen path begins with a beginner's permit at 15 and adds education, school and supervised-practice requirements before a Conditional or Special Restricted license.

Hold the beginner's permit

For the under-17 Conditional or Special Restricted route, SCDMV requires the beginner's permit for at least 180 days.

Complete supervised practice

The teen requirement is 40 supervised driving hours, including at least 10 hours at night, together with the current driver-education requirement.
