Kansas instruction-permit requirements
Kansas' teen graduated-licensing system begins with an instruction permit from age 14 and gradually expands privileges as age and experience increase.

Instruction permits start at 14
Applicants age 14–16 use the teen permit rules, including supervision by an eligible licensed adult age 21 or older.
Complete vision and written testing
An accepted driver-education completion certificate can replace the written test in the situations Kansas describes.
Under 17: plan for the one-year permit period
The state-issued instruction permit must be held for one year or until age 17, whichever comes first, before the driver moves to the applicable license test.
