Use the handbook as the source of truth

The 2026 Rules of the Road explains the written, vision and driving examinations and the rules new Illinois drivers are expected to know. The basic Class D written exam includes sign identification plus questions about traffic laws, safety rules, crash prevention and vehicle equipment.

Keep the current Secretary of State PDF bookmarked. Procedures, fees and licensing rules can change even when older practice pages remain online.
