Prepare for the knowledge test
The GRAD/learner knowledge test has a 75-minute limit. DC DMV offers the test in 24 languages after its December 2025 expansion, plus eligible virtual/proctor options.
Prepare for legal practice and the road test
The road skills test requires an appointment, a valid learner permit, a licensed accompanying driver age 21+, and a registered/insured vehicle; applicants under 21 bring the 40-hour certification.
